The Royal Oak is a 15th Century pub that sits beside the historic Langstone Mill. The pub has a traditional interior, with two open fires and stone floors and coastal views from its outside tables. It is dog friendly and has a garden overlooking a wildlife sanctuary and a separate restaurant and beer garden.
Licensed to sell drinks since at least 1754, inns like The Royal Oak may also have been used as resting places by smugglers of drink and tobacco along the coast.

Many pubs took on this name to honour King Charles II’s hiding place in an old oak tree, whilst escaping from Crowell’s Roundhead soldiers during the English Civil War in 1651.

The pub was visited by artist Flora Twort and author Nevil Shute during the 1930s and 1940s and they both stayed at the nearby Langstone Mill.
The Royal Oak is between Portsmouth and Chichester at 19 Langstone High Street, Havant PO9 1RY. Turn left into Langstone High Street, off the A3023 main road to Hayling Island.
