This section of the BIlly trail hugs the harbour’s eastern shoreline and includes a short ferry ride across to Portsmouth. It offers a rare glimpse into the role that Hayling played in WW2 and the D-Day landings, as well as excellent bird watching on the trail and oyster beds.

The route touches Sinah Common, a 243 hectare (600 acre) SSSI containing a WW2 defence complex and also a Mulberry harbour unit and decoy sites used to draw German Luftwaffe bombers away from Portsmouth and other military targets.
At the north end of the oysterbeds, remnants of the harbour’s past are now home to an array of bird life, including oystercatchers, curlews, gulls and redshanks.
There are also opportunities for birdwatching and to even maybe see a seal!
Car parks
- Sinah Common has pay and display parking near the Ferryboat Inn.
- The old oysterbeds have two small car parks to the north and south
Public transport
- Bus transport loops around Hayling Island using Stagecoach services 30 and 32 that link up at Havant bus station, with stops close to Sinah.
